During the XVII Century, the land of Jalisco, Mexico, was a privileged land called "Nueva Galicia" which was a trading center between the Orient and Spain. Spaniards who worked at producing goods such as bread and tortillas, grains and vegetables, beef and poultry, among others soon colonized this region. These products were to be sold in the commerce oriented, gold mining states of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Guanajuato as well as in Jalisco. Furthermore, being this a semi-desert area, colonizers were recognized for their great adaptability to the environment.

Jalisco prospered thanks to the dedication and hard work of all people; however, goods such as silk and fancy fabrics, beverages and other merchandise had to be acquired in Spain and only nobility, who bought these products as a way of contributing taxes to the crown, had the money to request them to be brought. The common people could not afford the shipping cost or the time it took to import these products. Despite the hard work people endured, the state's trademark became the great parties and livelihood of different celebrations in honor of the abundance of local goods. This is the possible origin of the "mariachi" (group of people who played musical instruments and played "songs dedicated Mary"), and the "charreria" (event where livestock ownersą show their best horses and bulls). Since the new Creole and Mestizo generation could not afford to import wine for their parties, the first apparatus to make wine and some grapevines were imported, thus producing the sought wine without depending directly from Spain. Due to the lack of water in the region and the great demand for wine, people got the idea of using agave plants as well as sugar canes to produce alcohol and some medications as well as to prepare some drinks that were typical of the region, just like the native Indians did. However, the qualities of the agave, were renowned. "Tequila" became the typical drink for several decades, and has remained so ever since. Today, "Tequila" has been consecrated as a world-class beverage.

La Barranca S.A. de C.V. (La Barranca Distillery) has been constituted
in accordance to Mexican law. It is located in Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico
"Land rich in traditions"- and has the capacity of producing 200,000
liters of Tequila monthly. After the declaration of Origin Denomination recognized in most countries of the world, only the beverage made out of agave that has been grown and harvested within the boundaries of the state of Jalisco or some other states of the Mexican Republic, can proudly bear the name of "Tequila". La Barranca Distillery has the supervision and certification of the Tequila Regulating Board.
